Ouch

April 25, 2007

Oswald Chambers put the hurt on me this morning . . .

“Be ready in season and out of season” (2 Timothy 4:2)

“If we do only what we feel inclined to do, some of us would never do anything. There are some people who are totally unemployable in the spiritual realm. They are spiritually feeble and weak, and they refuse to do anything unless they are supernaturally insprired. The proof that our relationship is right with God is that we do our best whether we feel inspired or not.”

Those of us who believe in the modern day move of the Holy Spirit in terms of prophecy, healing, etc. can have a tendency to fall into this trap. We wait to be “led” to do something or to receive a “word” from God. (and I do believe God uses those things at times in our lives) But there is something to be said about the fact we are made in the image of God. If this is true (being made in the image of god), then once we become followers of Christ and are being redeemed, other things have to come into play in our daily lives. COMMON SENSE, I believe, is one of the languages of the Spirit. GOOD IDEAS (the imagination), are also part of the language of the Spirit. GOOD (Godly) COUNSEL, God does speak through others. Most of all, SCRIPTURE, Are you looking for a “word” from God? Look in the Word He has already given. I am a believer in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. I know that God moves in power today. We just need to make sure that we are in balance and do our best in the “high” spiritual times and in the difficulties of the day to day walk.
