Turn Up the Volume: Week One

September 15, 2008

The Way It Should Be

There is suffering in this world.

So how do we respond?  How do we turn up the Volume, the Truth, in the screaming chaos, pain, and deception of this world.  Where is the light, the voice of God in the middle of it all?

It’s you.  It’s how we respond.

Matthew Chapter 5 – “the Be-attitudes”

The word Blessed has a root meaning of “Priveledged”

1. How we handle our selves

     1. Blessed are the poor in spirit – humble, Theirs is the Kingdom

     2. Blessed are those who mourn – Don’t deny pain but offer in Trust to God who is our hope

     3. Blessed are the meek – Great strength under control

          1. Greek Word “praus”

               1. Soothing Medicine

               2. Gentle breeze by sailors

               3. A broken or trained colt

2. How we respond to others

     1. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness

          1. Right with God

          2. Right with self

          3. Right with others

     2. Blessed are the merciful

          1. God didn’t give us what we deserve – we need to be the same with others

          2. John 3:17 – Jesus doesn’t condemn neither should you

     3. Blessed are the pure in heart – they will see God

          1. It’s how wee see things

          2. We’ll see God in situations and people instead of seeing from our own sicknes

     4. Blessed are the peace makers – they will be called sons of God

          1. Everything unto redemption

          2. If it is possible, live at peace with everyone – Romans 12:18

          3. How we respond to circumstances

3. Blessed are you . . . when you suffer because of Jesus  . . . Doing these “attitudes”

What are we asking of you?  Turn it up.  Apply these things in your life.  You and others around you will begin to hear.

The Bible says in Romans 10:14-15 “then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”
