Give Your Loyalty Away Carefully

July 25, 2009

You ever been around when this argument takes place?

Person A: “I think that (insert Person B’s favorite professional sports team here) stinks!”

Person B: “No they don’t! They are way better than (insert Person A’s favorite professional sports team here)!”

Person A: “I can’t believe you think that!  Don’t you know that (Insert exaggerated list of semi true information here) and that (Insert Person B’s team here) could never be better than (Insert Person A’s team here)

And the argument continues until both parties are so angry that they don’t talk for long periods of time and say bad things about each other to other people.

Do you know what is so silly about that?  People defend and are super loyal to causes, people, and/or things that they don’t know or have any true investment in!  People will defend their sports team like they are a member of that team. It is misplaced loyalty.  I promise that neither person A’s or person B’s sports teams are defending them for anything.

What are you loyal to? What hill are willing to die on?  What are you willing to fight for?

Let me urge you to be fiercely loyal to Christ.  Be fiercely loyal to the call and vision he places on your life.  Fight for your family.  Be willing to die on Calvary’s hill.  Jesus said, “take up your cross daily and follow me”. He said love the Lord with ALL of your heart, soul, mind and strength AND love your neighbor as yourself (Luke 10:27 ~ This is a loyalty statement!).

Don’t give your loyalty to the temporal things of this world. Don’t fight for things that don’t advance the Gospel or minister to people.  Don’t die on silly, petty, fruitless hills.

Be Loyal to Jesus and what He calls you to.
