On a Mission from God

On a Mission from God

As Christians we talk a lot  about mission and purpose.  Often it has to do with a cause, a task, or a function.  We must remember that God does not NEED us to DO ANYTHING.  He is God.  He needs nothing.

This whole deal is about knowing God and be known by Him.  God is glorified in the context of our relationship with Him.  Out of relationship with God we discover abundant life by doing His will.  Jesus said that “my food is to do the will of Him who sent me” (John 4:34). Read this following quote from Oswald Chambers (yeah, I quote him a lot):

“The goal of the missionary is to do God’s will, not to be useful or to win the lost.  A missionary is useful and he does win the lost, but that is not the goal.  His goal is to do the will of his Lord.”

God want us to do His will because it brings him glory and it’s good for His children.  When God’s will is done, the lost will be saved, miracles will happen, hungry will be fed, we will grow, we will know Him more – it’s the abundant life Jesus was talking about!
