The Proverbial Journey 8

March 8, 2010

Proverbs 8

God is and has always been calling out to you!

Sometimes we have a perspective that God is just working out His plan and we have to get with the program.  In a sense that is completely true.  But if we are not careful we can lose sight of God’s heart in the search of His mind.  Let’s take a look at a couple of passages before we get into Chapter 8.

Psalm 139:17 – “How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!  How vast is the sum of them!”

1 Corinthians 1:9 – “God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.”

Ephesians 1:4-5 – For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he[c] predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.”

God’s heart is to know and be known by you.  What God does and what God says flows out of His nature.  He loves you.  He wants you to be His because He loves you.  God loves, unconditionally, because that is what He is like.

So, when we talk about wisdom, we understand that God is offering it to us out of His love for us.  He is chasing us and desires that we pursue Him.

Proverbs 8:1-3

1 Does not wisdom call out?
Does not understanding raise her voice?

2 On the heights along the way,
where the paths meet, she takes her stand;

3 beside the gates leading into the city,
at the entrances, she cries aloud:

God wants us to listen as He calling us.  He loves  us and wants us to receive His wisdom so that we will have the life that He desires for us.  How amazing is this relationship we have been given in Christ.  We get to know God.  We get to be loved by God.  He has an amazing plan for the universe and chooses to use and include us.  He’s concerned that we have a life that is full of His blessing and abundant life.  He allows us to have His wisdom.  And it is valuable!

Vs. 10-11 “Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.”

God’s thoughts are precious and valuable, because God’s word is life to us!

Listen to the benefits of God’s wisdom:

Vs. 34-36

34 Blessed is the man who listens to me,
watching daily at my doors,
waiting at my doorway.

35 For whoever finds me finds life
and receives favor from the LORD.

36 But whoever fails to find me harms himself;
all who hate me love death.”

How about you today?  Are you listening to the calling out of the Lord?  Do you treasure His thoughts?  What are your thoughts?

  1. Yes, His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.
    And because He makes Himself reachable to us, the finite, sometimes we finite lose sight of His Infinite.
