It: Down to Earth Humility

July 24, 2010

Here is post number Five on my thoughts of the six characteristics of people who seem to have “it” taken from Craig Groeschel’s book “It: How Church Leaders Can Get It and Keep It”.

5. Down to earth humility

The ultimate example of down to earth humility is God, completely transcendant and beyond all we can think or imagine, coming down to earth and walking among us.  God came down to earth.

“The Word became flesh” – John 1:14

“He humbled himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross!” – Philippians 2:8

“Foe we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses; but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are” – Hebrews 4:15

“they will call him Immanuel” – which means, “God with us” – Matthew 1:23

So true humility for us is to make Christ our example and be incarnational ourselves.  We are to be like Christ and reflect Him.  We are to “put on Christ” as the scriptures say.  Just as God came down to earth, became one of us that we might know Him, we need to be in the world and reflect Christ so that they may know Him.  We need to allow the Word to become in our flesh.  My friend Brian used to say, “Be Jesus with skin on”.

“Whoever claims to live in Him, must walk as Jesus did” – 1 John 2:6

Wash one another’s feet, become the servant of all, have faith like a child, lay down our lives.
